Mixed Feelings

Tomorrow is our first official day back at school and I have to say I have mixed feelings about this.  Can you relate?  Starting new and fresh each August is a nice perk of this job.  You can decorate your classroom completely different than the previous year if you want to or you can go with the same theme or decor - it's really your choice.  If you worked in an office or worse - a cubicle - it's the same old thing day in and day out. So that is a definite plus to being a teacher. Your group of students is different each year, so if you had a difficult group, you don't have them forever.  In the corporate world, you would be stuck with a difficult group of colleagues unless you changed jobs.

However,  I've heard people say that being a teacher is boring - same thing every year, but that is completely the opposite of our job.  Every year many, many, many things change.  In fact, it would be nice if a few things could stay the same - curriculum, procedures, schedules, etc.  Then we could improve upon them instead doing it the "new" way.

Do you see why I say mixed feelings?  There is always something to look forward to and some things to kind of dread, but it's in the morning I will begin again.
